If you are looking for a little additional Southwestern adventure, the town of Rawhide, which is a mining town established in the 1800’s, is an easy drive. The Phoenix International Airport is about a 30-minute drive, allowing you to easily go on vacations or to pick up your friends when they come to visit your new home.

If you do house to buy a home in Sun Lakes AZ you will be part of a cozy community. With only 6,683 homes, and 5 country clubs style neighborhoods each with their own set golf course and set of amenities, you are sure to find one that fits your style. If you prefer, two of the communities, Oakwood and Ironwood, are manned and gated for additional safety.

If you love golf, buying a home in Sun Lakes AZ may just be for you. With 5 world class courses, one in each neighborhood, you can reward yourself with endless amounts of play. For those of you who are not golfers, do not let that deter you. There is an endless number of clubs and social activities you can join. If the club doesn’t exist, feel free to start your own with other like-minded residents. Some of the amenities you can expect to find in each of the communities are fitness centers, restaurants and swimming pools as well as hobby rooms where clubs meet and ballrooms for dancing. There is also plenty to do outside, such as the miles of hiking and biking trails, fishing lakes, scenic parks for relaxing or taking in a bocce ball or tennis game.

If you are still on the fence, let me give you a bit of a rundown on the types of homes they do have, all in their perspective neighborhoods. In the 30 years it took to complete Sun Lakes, you can imagine the home styles and requirements may have changed a bit. As a result, home styles and prices vary dramatically. Whether you are a buyer who prefers reasonably priced older homes or if you prefer newer construction, there is a home for you. You will have a wide assortment of single-family homes or attached villas that range from 1000 to 3500 square feet to choose from. There are also manufactured homes as an option and several different floor plans to meet your specific needs. Depending on which neighborhood you choose will also determine your association fees. Homeowners who choose to live in an attached Villa enjoy additional exterior maintenance provided by the association and therefore pay an additional condo fee each month.

As previously mentioned, there are five neighborhoods in this community. Oakwood, Ironwood, Cottonwood, Palo Verde and Sun Lakes Country Club. Each neighborhood has a unique look and feel. The original neighborhood is Sun Lakes Country Club, which is a non-gated community that was started in 1972. After the completion of the Sun Lakes neighborhood, Robson built Cottonwood and then the Palo Verde neighborhoods, which collectively contain 3,809 homes and share the same home owner’s association (HOA). Both the non-gated Cottonwood and the gated Palo Verde neighborhoods offer private equity golf courses. The fourth and fifth neighborhoods are Ironwood and Oakwood, respectively. These two neighborhoods are gated and are located north of Riggs Road. They share a common association which is known as IronOaks. Each of these communities offers the newest collection of homes and golf courses that are open to the public.
